The U.S. House has approved the FY 2021 Agriculture Appropriations Bill. The Senate has yet to approve their version. Nebraska Farmers Union President John Hansen says the measure is needed to help farmers and ranchers dealing with a depressed ag economy and it’s critical the Senate follow suit, and conference with the House to get the legislation approved.

He says not only is the 2021 appropriations measure needed but Congress also needs to put their partisan differences aside and get another stimulus package approved and sent out to producers.

Hansen says all sectors of agriculture are losing money, whether it be livestock producers or crop farmers.

The Trump administration has indicated its opposition to the 2021 House Appropriations measure partially because it fails to reform the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance or SNAP program.
