Most U.S. agriculture groups are pleased with the new USMCA, the remake of NAFTA. However many want to see the tariff issue and trade war settled. Jordan Dux is Director of National Affairs for the Nebraska Farm Bureau. He says resolution on the trade war is badly needed.
He’s hoping President Trump will work for that resolution when he meets with China’s President at the G20 Summit next month.
Dux says the best thing that can happen for America’s farmers and ranchers suffering from a depressed ag economy and the trade war is not just government funding assistance but good and solid trade deals.
It could be 2019 before Congress ratifies the USMCA as they have several issues on their plate yet to deal with as well as the mid term elections.
