The French Government wants the European Union to end talks with the U.S. on the Trans Atlantic Trade Investment And Partnership Act. French President Francois Hollande says the talks are unbalanced and can’t be completed before President Barack Obama leaves office. Nebraska Farm Bureau National Affairs Coordinator Jordan Dux says while it’s disappointing it’s not surprising. He says the talks started to fail when Britain left the E.U.
He says there is a glimmer of hope the talks can be revived but at this time the chances aren’t very good.
Dux says the TTIP since it’s start has been a fairly heavy lift.
Not everyone agrees that the TTIP discussions have failed. Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Public Affairs Matt McAlvanah says negotiations are in fact making steady progress.
