The efforts to pass legislation to address high property taxes in Nebraska have failed for this legislative session. Nebraska Farmers Union President John Hansen is disappointed lawmakers failed to approve LB 183, SenatorTom Briese’s measure. He says any opportunity to get something passed for property tax relief has now vanished with the session set to end May 31.

He says those wanting property tax relief were up against too much opposition.

Hansen says Nebraska State Senators failed to do something about the most important issue in the state. He also says the property tax relief petition drive which now appears to be their only option has some problems with its proposal.

Hansen says with the session ending earlier there is no further chance to seek a legislative solution this session to the property tax problem.
