Nebraska state lawmakers return to Lincoln next week to complete their 2020 legislative session. One of the measures they’re expected to debate is a bill set for final reading to improve broadband internet access. Nebraska Farmers Union President John Hansen says his group backs the measure. He says it corrects the current mapping that inaccurately measures who has broadband service and who doesn’t.

He says by clearing up who needs the service and by correcting the maps, it will make the state more eligible for federal financial assistance to help achieve that needed broadband access.

Hansen says where his farm is located is indicative of how lacking most areas of the state are for proper broadband service.

Hansen says the lack of access is a hindrance to economic development, doing business on line, for school kids being able to do their work and the ability to conduct any e-commerce of any kind.
