Tuesday afternoon the U.S. Senate voted 68 to 32 to pass the farm bill that came out of the conference committee and earlier passed the House. Nebraska Farm Bureau President Steve Nelson says he’s pleased lawmakers have provided certainty for farmers and ranchers for the next five years and that direct payments have been eliminated. He says it’s also positive that the farm bill contains livestock disaster assistance and expands crop insurance.
Nebraska Farm Bureau’s National Affairs Coordinator Jordan) Dux says while they were pleased with the overall farm bill, is disappointed there were some important regulatory fixes left out of the measure.
Dux says he’s confident there will be other avenues Nebraska Farm Bureau can and will pursue to achieve those regulatory fixes in the future.
