More than 630 business groups have urged Congress to move forward with immigration reform this year. The American Farm Bureau is part of that coalition that sent a letter this week to House Republican leadership saying passing reform would be better for the economy and the country. Nebraska Farm Bureau National Affairs Coordinator Jordan Dux says his group supports a reform package that provides for the legal workforce the ag industry needs. He says politics has been gumming up those efforts.
Dux says it makes more sense to approach the legislation in a piecemeal fashion rather than comprehensively which is the approach House members are taking.
He hopes that whatever the House comes up with can be conferenced with the Senate which passed a comprehensive immigration measure last year.
