Nebraska State Senators are expected to begin debating LB 947 today, the Governor’s tax relief measure that includes both income and property taxes. Nebraska Farm Bureau President Steve Nelson says his group strongly supports the measure as it’s the best chance at getting property tax relief passed this session.

He says while he and others want to see more property tax relief included and it passed sooner, LB 947 is a great step forward in achieving a cut in property taxes.

Nelson says LB 947 is likely the catalyst toward moving ahead on reforming the state’s tax system to better fund schools and get away from overreliance on property taxes.

He says LB 947 is a good starting point toward beginning the discussion on finding a more equitable way to fund schools in Nebraska.
