The Nebraska Farm Bureau is opposing a $369 million bond issue put forward by Southeast Community College in Lincoln. State Farm Bureau President Steve Nelson says they’re coming out against the bond issue because of its effect on property tax payers in the counties covered by the community college.
He says the county farm bureau’s located within the district are all opposing the bond measure. Nelson also says the priorities of the project are not spelled out clearly and are very costly.
Nelson says it would be wiser to prioritize the projects in smaller and more targeted ways than to call for a massive spending measure.
Nelson says while it’s unusual for the Nebraska Farm Bureau to take a position on a regional issue. However, he believes they’re well within their authority to do so, especially with the opposition by county farm bureaus in the district.
