Brazil’s Economy Minister after meeting with U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said his country is in official negotiations with the United States over a trade deal. Nebraska Farm Bureau’s Director of National Affairs Jordan Dux says seeking new trade agreements like this possible one with Brazil is very positive.

He says it’s critical any trade deal with Brazil include safety provisions on beef making sure they’ve gotten a handle on foot and mouth disease, something they’ve had problems with in the past.

Dux says U.S. agriculture would benefit from having a trade pact with Brazil as they have one of the biggest economies in the world.

Brazils new President who took office in January has vowed to improve ties with the United States. And a free trade agreement would fit in well with those aims.
