Mexican officials recently promised House Democratic Leadership it will improve its enforcement of new labor standards to protect the rights of workers in that country. That’s been one of the stumbling blocks to the Democrats backing the ratification of the USMCA trade agreement. Nebraska Farm Bureau’s Director of National Affairs Jordan Dux is encouraged by that recent development and hopes it leads to the deal being brought up before Congress for a vote.
He says its critical USMCA get approved so the U.S. can regain its leadership role in global trade.
Dux says the administration achieved several trade wins lately with the signing of the recent agricultural bilateral trade pact with Japan and the verbal agreement with the Chinese on starting to resolve the trade war.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says USMCA won’t come up for a vote in the chamber until all of their concerns are resolved including the labor standards, as well as pharmaceutical, and environmental issues. Dux says his group wants to see the measure voted on yet this year.
