Nebraska Farm Bureau Official Hopes Congress Tries Again To Pass Disaster Aid

This week the U.S. Senate failed to pass disaster assistance legislation. The body rejected proposals from both parties as they got mired up in politics. Nebraska Farm Bureau Director of National Affairs Jordan Dux is hoping they’ll take another run at passing a disaster bill.

He says Nebraskans have suffered a lot from the flooding and total damage costs have not yet been determined and they could rise from earlier estimates.

Dux says while livestock producers have programs to help them with disasters, grain farmers aren’t covered for flood damaged grain. He says they’ve written to Congress asking them to address that problem.

While the Senate failed to approve disaster aid, earlier in January, the House passed a $14.2 billion aid package.
