Nebraska Farm Bureau Official Defends Rewrite Of NEPA

A coalition of environmental groups led by Earth Justice and the Environmental Defense Fund are challenging the Trump administration’s rewrite of the National Environmental Policy Act or NEPA. Nebraska Farm Bureau’s Director of National Affairs Jordan Dux says his group backs the NEPA rewrite partially because it needed updating and also because having streamlined workable rules are critical for farmers and ranchers.

The rewritten NEPA says environmental impact statements must be done within two years and environmental assessments must be done within a year. Dux says time limits on federal regulations make sense.

He says federal rules to be effective must be workable and efficient and the NEPA rewrite fits that.

The environmental groups argue that the rewritten NEPA gives polluters a free pass and makes it easier to silence people’s voices challenging rules.
