The Nebraska Farm Bureau is joining the state’s corn growers in opposing State Senator Steve Lathrop’s water management bill.. Farm Bureau’s Vice President of Government Relations Jay Rempe says the measure as originally drafted would have rewritten the state’s water management rules for both ground water and surface water. He says it also would take away local control.

Rempe says they’re also against Lathrop’s measure because it would negatively impact farmers who irrigate.

Rempe says Natural Resource Committee members are taking Lathrop’s bill under advisement and gathering more information before issuing a decision.
