Nebraska farmers and ranchers took a big hit in the latest Midwest storms, from blizzards, high winds and flooding. Nebraska Farm Bureau President Steve Nelson says the so-called bomb cyclone came at difficult time for Western Nebraska farmers, during calving season, and they don’t have numbers yet on losses.
Moving across the state to the east, many areas are experiencing unprecedented flooding and farmers and ranchers have also lost property, feed and livestock. But again, totals are unknown.
The flooding is expected to continue for several days in some areas and the associated damage will have a longer tail.
