The Nebraska Farm Bureau has submitted comments to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on a proposed rule that would change critical habitat for endangered species. Farm Bureau’s Vice President of Government Relations Jay Rempe says the change in the proposed rule would cover a lot of area not now covered.
Rempe says another problem is that the rule would not only expand the regulatory overreach of the Fish and Wildlife Agency, it also would severely limit farming and ranching.
He says if Fish and Wildlife goes ahead with this rule, the issue will likely end up in court.
Rempe says his group believes Congress has a firm grasp of the concept in drafting the Endangered Species Act and did not intend Fish and Wildlife Unilateral authority to designate any area it determined the species should occupy as critical habitat.
