Several consumer organizations along with the Environmental Working Group are opposing the Regulatory Accountability Act. A version of that bill cleared the House in January and the Senate now is working on its own version. Nebraska Farm Bureau backs the measure. National Affairs Coordinator Jordan Dux says it’s not unexpected that environmental and consumer groups oppose it.

He says the Regulatory Accountability Act is needed to push back against a slew of over-reaching federal rules that negatively impact agriculture.

Opponents of the Regulatory Accountability Act say it’ll make it more difficult to keep America’s food supply safe if it’s tougher to pass regulations. Dux says that doesn’t make sense.

The Regulatory Accountability Act opponents sent a letter to Congressional leaders this week saying the legislation would create an unprecedented regulatory gauntlet through which no food safety rule or guidance could pass.
