The Nebraska Farm Bureau is urging President Trump to use the full powers of his office to enforce the phase one trade deal with China. Nebraska Farm Bureau President Steve Nelson says his state’s farmers and ranchers have been struggling economically and hit hard by the pandemic, and they need any relief they can get. He says that includes what was promised in the trade deal with China.

He says they noted in their letter to the President that while China promised to purchase $36 and a half billion worth of ag goods in 2020, so far they’ve only imported $4.6 billion worth of goods. Nelson says producers are losing their patience with China.

Nelson says while they’re asking for President Trump to use full powers, that should stop short of putting on any tariffs.

Prior to 2018, Nebraska agriculture exports to China ranged from $936 million to more than $1 billion equating to 15 percent of Nebraska’s total agricultural exports.
