The Nebraska Farm Bureau Federation is asking Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack to give farmers more time to sign up for the 2014 Farm Bill programs. Farm Bureau’s National Affairs Coordinator Jordan Dux says this new farm bill is very different from previous farm bills and requires farmers to make many more choices than they have in the past.

Dux says his group would like an extension that allows sign up by April 30 this year.

Dux says its critical farmers have more time to make their decisions because once they sign up they’re locked in for five years.

Dux says extending the sign up to April 30 is important because producers need to make decisions related to base acre reallocations, yield updates and all other commodity related farm programs.
