An economist who estimates that the death penalty costs Nebraska more than 14-Million dollars a year stands by his claim…even in face of criticism from the Attorney General.
Attorney General Doug Peterson insists appeals in death penalty cases don’t cost any extra…and that if eliminated…wouldn’t affect his staffing levels.
Economist Ernie Goss insists his analysis is sound. . .

Goss says he gathered information from the Census Bureau to estimate the cost of the death penalty for the state. . .

Goss says he has included all the data he used and explains the method used to arrive at his estimate in the study released Monday.
