The solar eclipse is one week away and thousands will be traveling in Nebraska to view this celestial event. The path of totality is about 70 miles wide and will stretch from northwest Nebraska to the southeast. The Nebraska Department of Transportation is ready for the extra road traffic and spokesperson Jenny Lautenschlager says be prepared for traffic backups, congestion on the roads and lost out-of-state travelers.
Lautenschlager asks that all Nebraskans be gracious hosts to the thousands of visitors. They also want everyone to drive safely on the day of the eclipse.
Lautenschlager expects all areas in the path of totality will be very busy and the department asks that Nebraskans make plans early to determine where they will view the eclipse. Large crowds may be possible over the weekend leading up to the actual day.
