Breakfast and lunch is being served to Nebraska children on summer vacation, but the Nebraska Department of Education wants more kids involved.
Kayte Partch with the department says there are summer food program sites throughout the state, but only 15-percent of eligible Nebraska children take advantage of the free meals.
Partch says the program provides nutrious meals, not the empty calories too many kids on summer break consume.
Partch says school districts and non-profits coordinate the program, which provides a free, well-balanced breakfast and lunch throughout the summer.
