State senators have begun, but have yet to complete debate, on a bill that would allow the children of illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses in Nebraska.
Senator Jeremy Nordquist of Omaha sponsored the bill that would allow so-called DREAMers to drive legally.

Opponents have mounted a filibuster against the bill.
Senator Lydia Brasch of Bancroft says she has sympathy for those brought to the country illegally by their parents.

Supporters of the bill expect to vote to end the filibuster and force a vote on the bill by mid-morning.
Nebraska is the only state that denies driver’s licenses to youth officially known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.
