President Elect Joe Biden plans to unveil a sweeping immigration bill on the first day of his administration. It proposes an eight year citizenship path for immigrants. Nebraska State Dairy Association Executive Director Kris Bousquet says that could be very helpful for the dairy industry which needs year long labor.

He says it’s positive the incoming President is looking at trying to help address those ag labor needs.

Bousquet says the ag labor issue impacts not just dairy but also other sectors of agriculture and that needs to be fixed.

Under Biden’s immigration plan, those living in the U.S.. as of January 1, 2021 without legal status would have a five year path to temporary legal status, or a green card. From that temporary status, it’s a three year period to citizenship.
