Nebraska Corn Growers Want Unicameral To Pass Property Tax Relief

The effort to get a property tax relief bill passed is continuing in this year’s session of the Nebraska Legislature. State Corn Growers Association President Dan Nerud says his organization is weighing in with State Senators hoping to get that done. He says the property tax burden is being felt by ag and no ag persons alike.

He says a big part of the problem is getting adequate funding for education and the challenge for state lawmakers is coming up with a balanced way to pay for it.

Nerud says his group hasn’t taken a stance on the property tax relief ballot issue. He says they prefer to work with State Senators in finding a solution.

A coalition of Nebraska agricultural groups are wanting state lawmakers to balance the state’s tax stool rather than having such a heavy amount placed on property taxes. Governor Pete Ricketts however is opposed to raising any taxes to achieve property tax relief.
