Prior to leaving for their August recess, the U.S. Senate approved a number of appropriations bills including the 2019 Agriculture appropriations measure. Nebraska Corn Grower’s President Dan Weseley is pleased with that passage. He says that include funding for the Ag Marketing Service which provides producers with marketing opportunities for their commodities.

He says new markets are critical for producers given the impacts of the trade war. Weseley says for corn growers, Mexico is an important market that must be preserved.

Weseley says he and his fellow growers are getting frustrated with the low commodity prices, the effects of the trade war and the need for new markets.

Weseley remains hopeful the administration will move forward on bilateral trade agreements to take the pressure off farmers and ranchers who’ve been hurt by the tariffs.
