Nebraska Corn Growers Don’t Like Water Management Legislation

Nebraska Corn Grower members are opposing legislation introduced by Senator Steve Lathrop that they say would take local control of water management issues from Natural Resource districts and give it to the state.  Corn Grower’s Executive Director Scott Merritt says LB 1074 has several problems and would change the whole water management structure in Nebraska.

Merritt says there are also problems that are created down the road if Lathrop’s measure is approved. He says that would occur in 30 years.

Merritt says the measure was heard in the Natural Resources Committee on Tuesday. He says no official action was taken and his group is willing to work with Senators on possible amendments to the bill that could eliminate their concerns.
