Nebraska Corn Board and the Nebraska Corn Growers Association are urging an immediate response from the Biden Administration and the office of the United States Trade Representative in response to Mexico’s updated published decree which will revoke the trade of all U-S GMO corn. Corn officials says Mexican president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has clearly violated the Unites States-Mexico-Canada agreement trade pact, and Nebraska corn stresses that a consultation process for a dispute under the USMCA must be immediately initiated. Andy Jobman, a corn grower from Gothemburg is the immediate past president of the Nebraska Corn Growers Association. He says the U-S needs to act now.
Jobman grows both white and yellow corn for human consumption which ultimately ends up at Mexico. He says if the decree is carried out, he and other corn growers will lose a valuable market.
Mexico has been the top market for U-S corn, and Jobman says the buyers in Mexico prefer U-S corn. He says this action will disrupt both the U-S as well as the Mexican economies.
The Nebraska Corn Growers past president says this action may have far-reaching effects beyond just agriculture.
