United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai is in Mexico this week meeting with Mexican trade officials to talk about the first year of the USMCA trade agreement and what’s been working and what needs correcting. Nebraska Corn Grower’s Association Executive Director Kelly Brunkhorst hopes the USTR brings up key biotech issues with the Mexicans over USMCA.

He says it generally goes better in working out trade disputes to be able to meet face to face rather than virtually which was the norm at the beginning of the pandemic.

Brunkhorst says trade continues to be very important for corn growers and all of U.S .agriculture.

The USMCA deal replaced NAFTA and went into effect July 1 of 2020.
