The Environmental Protection Agency has issued an interim decision allowing re-registration for the usage of Atrazine. The chemical has been used to control problem weeds for over 60 years and following 7,000 research studies showing its safety. Nebraska Corn Grower’s Association’s Executive Director Kelly Brunkhorst says atrazine is one of the most widely used products by farmers.
He says there’s another regulatory step the chemical has to go through before it reaches final re-registration approval.
Brunkhorst says if regulators were to deny the re-registration of Atrazine it would be very costly for producers.
Brunkhorst says currently Atrazine is approved for use in over 100 products and has been a workable tool for producers for over 60 years.
