National Farm Safety and Health week takes on special significance this year during Harvest with the record amount of crop needing to come out of the field. Nebraska Corn Board Executive Director Kelly Brunkhorst says it also means more farm equipment on the roads and the need to be especially cautious and watch out for that.
Brunkhorst says not only is it important to be careful while harvesting and traveling country roads, it’s also critically important to be careful when entering grain bins. He says many recent past accidents involving grain bins have led to deadly consequences. He says because of that both the Nebraska Corn Board and Corn Grower’s Association are trying to get the word out.
Brunkhorst says the corn groups donated several grain bin rescue tubes to local emergency responders to help those who may get engulfed in a grain bin.
