A Nebraska congressman sat down with a group of 30 farmers near Beatrice last week to talk about topics including trade, crop insurance and conservation programs. Congressman Adrian Smith says “listening sessions” offer farmers an opportunity to share their thoughts about the upcoming Farm Bill and the future of ag policy.
Smith says it’s important to get input from Nebraska producers as the process of writing the farm bill will start soon.
The director of the state Department of Agriculture accompanied Smith to the listening session. Greg Ibach says he’s hearing many of the same concerns at each session or town hall meeting he attends.
Ibach says he’s hopeful about the prospects for the new Farm Bill, saying what’s good for agriculture is good for Nebraska.
