The Nebraska Legislature’s Revenue Committee passed a bill hiking the state gas tax six cents a gallon and sent it to the floor of the Unicameral. Nebraska Farmers Union President John Hansen says his group, the State Farm Bureau and Trucking industry all back the measure.
Hansen says Senator Jim Smith’s bill calls for spending most of the money for bridge repair and upkeep.
Hansen says the distribution formula in Smith’s legislation is the most appropriate and fairest way to fix the infrastructure needs. Governor Pete Ricketts is on record opposing a gas tax increase.
