A new program at the University of Nebraska at Kearney hopes to encourage students to take up law in rural Nebraska counties.
UNK Political Science Professor Chuck Rowling says the Kearney Law Opportunities Program offers free tuition at UNK and guaranteed admission to the University of Nebraska College of Law…all to encourage bright students to practice law in rural areas of the state. . .

Rowling says there’s a real shortage of lawyers in all parts of rural Nebraska. . .

Wayne State and Chadron Colleges have similar programs.
The Nebraska Bar says a third of the state’s counties have three or fewer lawyers with no lawyer at all in 11 counties.
