A coalition of agriculture and education groups have come together to form Nebraskans United for Property Tax Reform and Education. Former State Senator Al Davis represents the Independent Cattlemen of Nebraska on the coalition. He says any solution to the education funding and property tax reform problem must include a rebalancing of the state’s three taxes.

He says there also has to be a better way to fund schools in the state as present state aid is very unequal.

Another coalition member, Nebraska Farm Bureau President Steve Nelson says shifting the taxes to alleviate property taxes is a revenue neutral approach that needs to be looked at.

Nelson says the present system of funding Nebraska’s schools through just property taxes is not sustainable.
