After Easter, Nebraska State Senators will be taking up tax relief legislation. One of the measures up for debate cleared the Revenue Committee last week and would provide state income tax relief, but little for property taxes. That’s concerning to several farm groups including the Nebraska Farm Bureau. State Government Relations Director Ansley Mick says they’re disappointed with LB 461.

She says some Senators along with Governor Ricketts are focused on state income tax relief due to its effect on the state’s economic development. However, Mick says reducing property taxes would be a better way to accomplish that goal.

Mick says her group will work with a coalition of other organizations to convince Senators to include better property tax relief components to LB 461.

Mick says LB 461 is up for full Senate debate on April 21.
