Nebraska Cattlemen Association President Mike Drinnen joined several ag group leaders from Nebraska in the nation’s capital last week. The group met with USDA Undersecretaries and staff as well as with their state’s Congressional delegation. He says they discussed concerns about trade and are hoping for a bilateral trade deal with Japan soon.

He says their meeting with Chief Ag Trade negotiator Gregg Doud was positive and U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer has been making great progress with the Japanese.

Drinnen says they also talked about a possible deal with the European Union but acknowledge that may take more time.

Drinnen is hopeful President Trump will make some progress when he meets with both Chinese and Japanese leaders at the G-20 summit later this week.
