Nebraska Cattlemen Association members are preparing to tackle their federal policy priorities for 2018. Cattlemen Executive Director Pete McClymont says a major concern for their organization is getting a proper resolution to the Electronic Logging Device Rules. They were delayed 90-days for livestock haulers but a longer-term fix is needed.
He says the present ELD rules make it tough for those hauling livestock to look out for the welfare of the animals they are transporting. He says they’re currently working with other groups that want to correct the current ELD regulation.
McClymont says the other federal issues they’re focusing on include livestock air emissions rules and trade.
McClymont says they’ll also be working on state issues with the Unicameral going into session next week. They’ll be lobbying Senators to pass tax reform in Nebraska, including property tax relief.
