A Nebraska coalition of business and agricultural groups and political leaders has come out in opposition to a $369 million bonding issue for renovations at Southeast Community College in Lincoln. Nebraska Cattlemen’s Association’s Director of Legislative Affairs Laura Field says they have joined the coalition because the impact on property taxpayers in the 15 counties served by the school would be extremely high.
She says besides the cost from the increase in property taxes with the bonds, the impact is even larger when you figure in the interest over 25 years.
Field says there could also be another tax increase put on those residents by a levy that Southeast Community College has at their disposal.
The vote on the bond issue is November 8.
