Nebraska Cattlemen Association members attending the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association summer meeting last week helped iron out a policy compromise on price discovery. Nebraska Cattlemen Association President Ken Herz says the middle ground his group helped NCBA find in their policy on price discovery is to begin a voluntary approach on robust price discovery and if that fails, to then seek a regulatory solution.
The NCBA policy committee decided the voluntary price discovery approach will be tried until October 1 but if it’s not achieved, then the regulatory step will be taken. Herz says getting better price discovery is needed but reaching that goal is a bit complicated.
He says another important policy that was passed had to do with traceability and supporting the non-profit U.S. Cattle Traceability group’s program.
Also at NCBA’s summer meeting, past Nebraska Cattlemen Association President Mike Drinnen was elected to serve on the NCBA nominating committee.
