The Nebraska Cattlemen Association is pleased with the introduction of the Cattle Market Transparency Act Legislation of 2020. Nebraska Senator Deb Fischer, member of the Senate Ag Committee is sponsoring the bill. Nebraska Cattlemen Association President Ken Herz says increasing price discovery and improving market transparency has long been a goal of his group and part of their policy.

He says achieving transparent cattle markets is a complex issue and the needs of that for each region of the country varies.

Herz says Fischer’s bill calls for improved livestock mandatory price reporting.

Herz says the measure calls for having the USDA determine how price reporting should occur in areas where confidentiality kicks in so there are prices actually reported and not stymied by that confidentiality.
