Drought conditions that may extend into the summer months have many cow-calf producers worried, and they possibly will need to make some hard decisions.  The Nebraska Cattlemen Association is hosting a four-part webinar series, beginning May 3rd, to assist cattle producers with those difficult decisions.  Melody Benjamin serves as the Vice President of Policy Engagement with the Nebraska Cattlemen, and explains the purpose for the drought focused webinar.

Benjamin says so far, pastures are short and slow to grow, and hay supplies are running low.

Part one of the webinar series will focus on “Factors Affecting Calf and Yearling Values.” Part two is scheduled for Thursday, May 5th and will look at “Herd Liquidation Against a Strong Market.”  Thursday, May 12th will focus on feed availability of feed by-products.

The fourth and final seminar is scheduled for Tuesday, May 17th dealing with marketing options if forced to depopulate your herd.  Benjamin says producers can register for the webinar series by going to the Nebraska Cattlemen Association’s website.
