The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has extended the hours of service electronic logging device exemption for livestock haulers. The original deadline had been August 14 but now it’s been extended to September 14. Nebraska Cattlemen Association President Ken Herz says that extension is needed and appreciated. He says it’s an issue his group and their national organization have been working on for some time.

He says having the extension is critical in ensuring proper animal welfare.

Herz says not only does extending the exemption benefit producers and haulers but also consumers as would a permanent extension.

Herz says that livestock haulers are crucial to keeping beef moving through the supply chain and on to grocery store shelves.
