The Biden administration is expected to remove several regulatory changes to the Endangered Species Act. They would put back rules in that could lead to more animals being listed as endangered doing away from loosened rules put in by the Trump administration. That’s concerning for agriculture. Nebraska Cattlemen Association’s Vice President of Government Affairs Ashley Kohls says one of the primary concerns is how critical habitat is defined in the E-S-A.

She says two keys to making the Endangered Species Act workable is making sure sound science is the basis for any listing and that local control is upheld.

Kohls says any ESA rule that’s adopted must be done thoughtfully and not quickly as a blanket type rule.

Under the Biden administration’s planned changes to the ESA, the federal agencies intend to withdraw a regulation that requires possible economic effects of that rule when designating critical habitats.
