The United Food and Commercial Workers Union International says it and JBS have agreed to a $4 per hour wage increase through May and to a $600 bonus. The company is also providing employees access to masks, gloves and face shields and will install plastic shields in areas where physical distancing isn’t possible. Nebraska Cattlemen Association President Ken Herz says those are positive steps that will hopefully keep the processing plants in Omaha and Grand Island up and running.

He thanks JBS for their willingness to work with the workers Union in providing a safe environment to keep things running smoothly.

Herz says keeping packing plants operating is not only important for livestock producers but for consumer also so that the food chain isn’t disrupted.

JBS employs 2900 workers in Grand Island and 1,000 workers in Omaha.
