This week the Nebraska Unicameral voted to restore $100,000 in funding taken from the Brand Committee intended to help balance the state budget. Nebraska Cattlemen Association President Troy Stowater says the Brand Committee funds came from fees and not tax money and never should have been taken by the legislature for other purposes.

He says input from Nebraska Cattlemen Association members and other voters compelled the legislature to restore the funding.

Stowater says the decision by the Unicameral sends a clear message not to take money that’s not collected by taxes and use it for some other purpose.

State Senator John Kuehn of Heartwell introduced and carried the amendment that passed that restored the funding to the Brand Committee.
