Nebraska lawmakers are scheduled to complete their 2019 legislative session in June. With time starting to wind down, Nebraska Cattlemen Association officials say there’s still time to get some type of property tax relief bill passed. Vice President of Legislative Affairs Laura Field says although LB 289 never got to a vote, there’s still opportunity to amend it or bring it back., or even some other relief measure could come forward.
She says lawmakers still have an opportunity to pass legislation that would add to the property tax credit fund.
Field says it’s also possible to get enough Senators to back a property tax relief that would withstand a possible veto.
Field says even though the Governor is opposed to raising the sales tax or any other taxes to provide property tax relief, the whole tax stool needs to be reformed because its so out of whack now with the over reliance on property taxes.
