The agriculture tally from the worst disaster in Nebraska’s history may go on for months to come. Nebraska’s cattle producers were hit hard by last week’s storm that left heavy snow in the western part of the state and caused severe flooding in the northeast. Nebraska Cattlemen Association President Mike Drinnen says the damage was widespread and impacted both feedlot and cow calf operators.
He says they’re still compiling numbers on how much livestock death loss occurred with the storm.
Drinnen says the flood hit his feedlot near Columbus and it will take some time before they’re able to recover.
Drinnen says they lost a close family friend who tried to rescue other people from the floods. He says Nebraskans are pulling together but could use everyone’s prayers.
Nebraska Ag Director Steve Wellman has estimated losses to livestock at around $400 million, but most of that total being cattle losses.
