Nebraska Cattle Group Wants Right To Farm In State Constitution

Nebraska Cattlemen Association leaders are pleased the Legislature’s Ag Committee reconsidered an earlier vote Wednesday and passed a bill calling for an amendment to the state constitution putting in the right to farm law. Cattlemen’s Legislative Director Laura Field says their membership backs the bill.

She says the right to farm needs to be in the constitution to protect against those who attack agriculture and only have to influence 25 members of the Unicameral to put in measures that could injure Nebraska’s number one industry.

Field says she’s glad two amendments were considered this time around.

The vote was five for, two against and one abstaining.
