Nebraska Cattlemen Association members will be testifying on a pair of bills dealing with the Brand Committee this week. Cattlemen Association Director of Government Affairs Ashley Kohls says the first measure, LB1165 they’re opposing as it calls for elimination of the Brand Committee.
She says one of their priority bills is the opposing measure, LB 1200 and that would revamp the Brand Committee.
Meanwhile, The Independent Cattlemen of Nebraska oppose both measures. They say LB 1200 would move registered feedlots to a different pay status for animal identification, effectively removing a significant amount of funds necessary to pay for the work of the Brand Committee. The Independent Cattle Group says the current Brand Committee is financially sound and does not rely on tax money.
